The Eurovision Song Contest was the 61st edition of the Eurovision Song Contest. It took place in Stockholm, Sweden, following the country's victory at the contest with the song "Heroes" by Måns Zelmerlöw. Organised by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and host broadcaster Sveriges Television (SVT), the contest was held at the Globe Arena and consisted of two semi-finals on 10 and 12 May, and a final on 14 May The three live shows were presented by Petra Mede and the previous year's winner Måns Zelmerlöw.

Forty-two countries participated in the contest. Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia and Ukraine returned after absences from recent contests, while Australia also returned after debuting as a special guest in Portugal did not enter, largely due to their national broadcaster's insufficient promotion of its music-based media, while Romania had planned to participate, but was disqualified due to repeated non-payment of debts by its national broadcaster to the EBU.

"Heroes" is a song recorded by Swedish singer Måns Zelmerlöw written and composed by Anton Malmberg Hård af Segerstad, Joy Deb, and Linnea Deb. It was released on 28 February as a digital download in Sweden. It won the Melodifestivalen and represented Sweden in the Eurovision Song Contest held in Vienna, which it also won.[4][5] It is the lead single for Zelmerlöw's sixth studio album Perfectly Damaged.

Melodifestivalen

Being Zelmerlöw's third participation in the selection, "Heroes" participated in the fourth semi-final of the edition of the Melodifestivalen which was held in Örebro's Conventum Arena on 28 February [8] The song was performed last at the fourth semi-final. It directly qualified to the final as it got one of the first two places.[9][10]

    Måns Zelmerlöw existerar son mot Olle Zelmerlöw, läkare, expert i kirurgi, och Birgitta Sahlén, professor i logopedi vid Lunds universitet. Namnet Zelmerlöw besitter en hundraårig historia samt bildades efter Måns Zelmerlöws farfars farmor Selma Löf.[5] Zelmerlöw gick på enstaka musikinriktad linje på Lars-Erik Larsson-gymnasiet inom Lund var han koncentrerade sig främst på körsång, och sjöng senare inom Lunds studentsångare.
