The Davis Cup qualifiers first round are being held from 30 January to 2 February The thirteen winners of this round qualified for the Davis Cup Qualifiers second round while the thirteen losers will play at the Davis Cup World Group I.

[edit]Twenty-six teams will play for thirteen spots in the Qualifiers second Round, in series decided on a home and away basis.[1]
These twenty-six teams are:
- 14 teams ranked 2nd–16th in the Finals, excluding the host nation (Italy) for the Final 8 and wildcard team (Netherlands)
- 12 winning teams from the World Group I
The 13 winning teams will play at the Qualifiers second round and the 13 losing teams will play at the World Group I.

The 24 nations contesting the Qualifiers this weekend are competing for a place at the Davis Cup by Rakuten Finals. The 12 winning nations will secure a place in the Davis Cup Finals group stage in September.
Sweden hosts Japan on indoor hard court at the Helsingborg Arena with a capacity of 4, spectators. The city of Helsingborg with about , inhabitants is the centre of the northern part of western Scania and Swedens closest point to Denmark.
The tie marks the second meeting for the two nations but their first since facing each other in a World Group first-round clash in Yokohama 41 years ago, when Sweden won all five matches for the loss of just one set.
Swedens top singles player and World No. 85 Mikael Ymer, who has won 10 of his last 14 Davis Cup matches, will open the tie against Yosuke Watanuki on Friday afternoon followed by his brother Elias Ymer taking on Japans No. 1 Taro Daniel.
In Saturdays doubles rubber, Andre Goransson and Dragos Madaras are scheduled to face Yasutaka Uchiyama and BenMcLachlan. The reverse singles rubbers will be played afterwards.
